Open Web Declaration • Post Status

The World Wide Web has changed us. Nearly two-thirds of the world is now “online” and we have more opportunities than ever to access, create and connect. The Web didn’t happen by accident, however, and its future should not be taken lightly.

The Web, the Internet, or nowadays the metaverse, is a digital network of connections. Websites and apps serve as the interface between those connections.

NS open the web The web is in its ideal state.

We believe that there are three key characteristics of an open web:

  1. easy use — Anyone should be able to connect to the open web. This means providing the hardware, software, and infrastructure to take the last third online and continuously working to make experiences on the web more accessible.
  2. creativity — Anyone should be able to create on the open web. This is where open source and the Four Freedoms head, giving people the ability to build anything they can imagine and own their creations.
  3. Connectivity —Anyone should be able to connect with anyone else who wants their connection. It is the foundation for the community and is well exemplified in tools that can be readily accepted, such as email, and open source projects such as Matrix.

The open web, then, is a web that can be Accessible by all, where all can build it, and where communities can thrive.

WordPress powers over 42% of the web and has become an operating system for building on the open web.

We believe WordPress for the Open Web is important for three important reasons:

  1. an indicator of health Given its size and impact, a thriving WordPress ecosystem serves as an indicator of the health of the web as a whole, especially as we experience the tradeoff benefits of decentralization. Creativity is the open web feature where WordPress’ influence is strongest.
  2. An ecosystem for business development — For a typical web-focused business (such as a SaaS, hosting provider, or service provider), more than a third of their current or potential customers are already on WordPress. Focusing on the WordPress ecosystem allows businesses to better serve their existing customers and attract new customers.
  3. a way to contribute The open web is a shared resource, which requires contribution for conservation and development. Investing in WordPress, including Five for the Future, provides a way to contribute towards the future of the open web.

Post Status serves businesses within the WordPress ecosystem and is focused on growing the WordPress economy. We believe that web-based businesses that deliver value to their customers are essential to an open web and our job is to expand the unrealistic impact and impact of WordPress as we help those businesses grow.

Post Status seeks to grow the WordPress economy in three essential ways:

  1. guide – We provide guidance on how to think and where to focus to grow business in the WordPress ecosystem. We offer Framework (eg a framework for strategic partnerships), Analysis (eg Shopify vs WooCommerce), Insights (for example our acquisition tracker), and point of view (eg interview with Josh Strebel after the Pagely acquisition) to help our members reach their goals.
  2. connect – We help our members connect with each other, through our rapidly growing Slack community, through public and private events, both virtual and in person, and through personal introductions. Partnership deals and acquisitions? A lot of those posts start with status.
  3. improvement — Growing businesses need support and we are committed to doing what needs to be done to help our members grow. Need to do or figure out something to help your business grow? Reach out and let us know.

We want the open web to grow – to be more diverse and more flexible.

We believe that investing in the WordPress economy – in particular, businesses and those involved – is one of the most important keys to the growth and future of the Open Web.

We have a lot going for it today, and we are just getting started.
