Shakib Al Hasan tests positive for Covid-19 to miss first Test against Sri Lanka

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be part of the opening Test against Sri Lanka. The 35-year-old had returned from the USA on May 9, but had to return home instead of joining the squad in Chattogram. He will be in isolation for the next five days. This will be a huge drawback for the home nation as he offers a lot to the side in terms of both the batting and bowling departments.

The first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will begin on May 15 in Chattogram while the second and final Test will be held in Dhaka on May 23. both will be part of the test world test championship 2021-23 will have some important points to grab as well.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s President of Operations Jalal Younis confirmed that Shakib will miss the first two Tests against Sri Lanka. Shakib missed earlier New Zealand In the Test tour and the tour of South Africa due to personal reasons, he had to return home after the ODIs due to health issues with his family. He is one of the key players in the team and Bangladesh has always looked up to him as a match winner across all formats.

“Shakib tested COVID positive and will not be available for the opening Test against Sri Lanka,” BCB’s Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Younis confirmed to Cricbuzz on Tuesday (May 10).

Bangladesh have lost the services of Mehdi Hasan Miraj for the first Test after an injury in the Dhaka Premier League, while Taskin Ahmed is yet to make a full recovery from a shoulder injury.
